Honours for the ideas that shape our city
THE best new buildings – and an old favourite – were celebrated when industry leaders from around the country gathered at the Leeds Architecture Awards. One of the biggest cheers of the night went to Leeds Town Hall, which won the YEP's inaugural award for Leeds's Favourite Building.

Leeds Architecture Awards
Last night I had the pleasure of joining the Holbeck Urban Village table at the Leeds Architecture Awards (24th year) at Broadgate on the Headrow. It was a fantastic evening actually, not least because I wasn’t involved in running it (last week I was involved in The Northern Art Prize awards) so could relax and enjoy the wine… a little! The people around our table had their fingers crossed for Wonderwood, the temporary pocket park of fun at the Round Foundry.

Leeds's Favourite Building revealed
Councillor John Procter proudly accepted the YEP's Favourite Building award – after you voted for Leeds Town Hall as your winner. The historic landmark, designed by Cuthbert Brodrick, was among the winners at last night's prestigious Leeds Architecture Awards.

Judgement day for Leeds landmarks
A panel of the UK's top architects have been touring some of Leeds's finest buildings to find winners for 2009 Leeds Architecture Awards. Guest assessor announced for Leeds Architecture Awards
Leading architect Renato Benedetti has been announced as the guest assessor for the Leeds Architecture Awards 2009, set up to promote and celebrate the highest standards of architectural design in Leeds.
He will join a team of development and regeneration experts led by Leeds civic architect John Thorp in selecting the final shortlist and award-winning developments from those nominated for this year's awards.
A partner at McDowell+Benedetti, Renato Benedetti is best known as the mastermind behind the £3.2 million Castleford footbridge, featured in the Channel 4 series 'Big Town Plan'.
